I just got some tragic news that makes me realize just how short out time is. And how I need to make more of an effort to visit friends. Carl Schneider, a friend who I have known since 1991, passed away on Friday. I had been meaning to get together with him to see the waters in his neck of the woods. But life was always distracting me. I will not get the chance to paddle with my old Scouting friend.
Carl was in a kayaking accident and got caught under a waterfall. Just absolutely tragic. There is a small write-up on http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib…/news/pittsburgh/s_702591.html Visitation is Tuesday 10/5 6-8pm at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Pittsburgh Fourth Ward, 2202 Reis Run Road, Franklin Park PA 15237 and 9:30-10:30am Wednesday where a service will be held at 11am in the church. Family suggested memorial contributions be made to BSA. I hate bringing sad news like this…
He was extremely focused on safety so something like this hit me hard. Carl was a certified kayak instructor and river guide for Wilderness Voyageurs in Ohiopyle. And new the waters on the Blackwater River better than he new the hairs on the back of his hand. Moreover, Friday he was paddling with other instructors on the river.
The next time you go out onto the water. Please take a moment and hold him, and his family in your thoughts. I cannot imagine how his family is dealing with his passing. Thank you – Jeff
